Nov 20/01 - STAT -- India's spice exports inched down during October, but remained almost 40% higher than shipments during the same month last year.Export clearances during the first half of India's 2001-02 marketing year now total 130,145 metric tons (MT), up 14.8% over last and raising hopes among some spice processors the country will break last season's 230,000 MT export sales record.Clearances for most types of spices are up over the same period last year. The biggest volume gains were recorded by the other spices category, up 6,500 MT at 20,500; followed by a 5,050 MT jump in cumin sales to 8,500 MT, a 5,000 MT jump in turmeric clearances to 22,500 MT and a 4,000 advance in chilli exports to 38,000 MT.Some of these gains were offset by massive declines in coriander and fenugreek exports to 4,850 and 2,750 MT respectively.
